About Dirty Hippie Radio

Welcome to Dirty Hippie Radio. DHR is a homegrown community of musicians, writers, and artists with a passion for music. We’re devoted to bringing you the best independent music we can find, and a venue for emerging artists of all genres to grow their networks and expand their presence. Listen, be heard, get involved. The more love we give to this music, the more it lives and the stronger it becomes. We’re in it for the music!

Dirty Hippie Radio was born out of passion for music, art, writing, and creation. Our primary purpose is to extend the reach of our network in order to expand exposure for artists and their music within the vast community of the independent scene.  The other side of that coin is our commitment to bring a diverse selection of the best, most interesting independent music available to an audience of listeners who are likely to never hear of such talent otherwise.  We’ve brought it all together in an interactive site with a simple interface.  Unlike many sites we all know, where when you open the inundated home page and can’t even figure out what to do with it, where to go, or how on earth to get the music to play, Dirty Hippie Radio is playing music the moment our home page is opened.

Our homegrown internet radio station is highly personable.  Not a track makes it to the player without filtering through Dirty Jeff’s ears, and we make it a point to catch as many of the artists live as we can.  It’s not uncommon for bands to be caught off guard, finding themselves of a sudden shaking hands with either Dirty Jake or Jeff sometime before, during, in between, or after a performance.  We’re not just nerds at home on computers – we’re out there in the mix, experiencing and finding the coolest sounds goin’ round; and our tentacles are far reaching.

Check out our Blog regularly for constant updates about New Music, Upcoming Shows, Show Reviews, Album Reviews, and whatever magnificence farts from our brains.  If you spend most of your free time, and those moments in the cubical when the boss isn’t looking, on Facebook, then be sure to become a fan of Dirty Hippie Radio on Facebook to maintain the latest and greatest with our scene, as our Blog also feeds posts directly to our Facebook.  If you dig your own space, we are there too (Dirty Hippie Radio on Myspace).

We hope you enjoy what we’ve created, and what we couldn’t do without the artists’ creations.  There’s a caldera of talent boiling out of the independent scene today.  This is the next great era for music.  If you don’t get on board quick you’ll certainly be left behind, marooned on an island of grey and black.  Colour up your life, stimulate your world, expand your mind with Dirty Hippie Radio!

This site is awesome!! Keep up the good work!!!

  12. Hey all….apologies if you’ve addressed this but does an artist have to be a specific genre to join and do I have to be a dirty hippie?

  13. Dirty Jake says:

Hey Randall, sorry for the delay replying to your comment, guess we had a pretty long weekend.

To answer your first question, while we are more prone to play music on the main site that fits a certain groove, we certainly are not turning anyone away from creating their own page, uploading their music, and having a place to share their art.

If you listen to the site long enough, you should be hearing a lot of great music, but not limited to any specific genre.

And while being a dirty hippie is a plus, and will get you laid more often, it is not a requirement to be a part of the scene.
Thanks for checking us out, and let’s hear what you got!

  14. Dirty Jeff says:

Hey there, miss you and still waiting for you to track us down… haha, thought I’d tap you on the electronic shoulder. Would love to hear from you guys, and perhaps we can collaborate on getting some music on here at DHR that we haven’t found yet… Hope all is well, hope to hear back. Cheers.
    Dirty Jeff

  15. Katherine says:

Jeff and Jake your site rocks! I’ve been watching you grow and I’m stoked people are catching on to the great music you guys are posting. I also have to give a shout out to White Arrows! That’s my brothers band and they kick-ass! Keep sharing the good tunes!

  16. Dirty Jeff says:

Katherine, thank you so much!! Really just knocked my socks off and made my day! So great to hear it’s working, because we really love it too and hope to continue expanding upon what we’re doing. We both (Jake and I) have been enjoying the White Arrows. I’ll give a shout out too: I learned of White Aarows from DJ Jen at KXLU, who I DJ with on Thursdays and have been playing White Aarows since. They’re infectious, fun, and catchy while still proving interesting. Great combo!

  17. I’ve been looking for you all my life
