Froth – at the gash
Download Froth – Gas Money EP here!
It really began as a joke. One part young and fun idiocy – one part artistic creativity – one part raunchy Australian jest – one part music. A band born from El Segundo, a band called Froth.
The band was unintentionally founded by El Segundo natives Joo-Joo Ashworth (guitar, vocals) and Jeff Fribourg (omnichord), who each graduated from El Segundo High School in 2012 and 2008, respectively.
“It actually started as a joke,” explains [...]

Alexander “Skip” Spence is little-known at best as the guitarist of the late 60’s San Franciscan group Moby Grape; however, he’d previously sat behind the drum kit of the area’s most successful musical act of the era. As a member of Jefferson Airplane’s 1965/66 incarnation, [...]
Terrapin interview with Free Download of Innermachine LP
Terrapin – innermachine. Cover art by Andrew Wilson.
There’s a wistful mystique surrounding this wonderful album by LA/So Cal psychedelic, shoegazey rock band The Terrapin. As the LP followup to their Kill… EP, innermachine captures the band at both its creative height and melancholy parting of ways.
“The innermachine line-up of the band reached a point where it became difficult for the interpersonal to be separate from the music,” shares Rufo Chan, drummer of The Terrapin. “It was [...]
Brook and River and their small smiles
There’s something called small smiles. It’s a quirky approach to smiling, in which the smiler attempts to suppress the smile to a restricted breadth. It sounds silly, and it is, maybe even eerie, like something from The Twilight Zone; but it’s also quite difficult to achieve, the primary obstacle being laughter. To simply not smile largely seems to affect the opposite, and the act of smiling small usually ends with a giggle. While the small sensation may not be sweeping [...]
Beacon of the Midnight Lamp
Midnight Lamp plays Cafe Boogaloo this Friday, as well as Sunday at Saint Rocke.
“In 2002 we were playing a ton of Hendrix songs… but we weren’t a Hendrix cover band, and didn’t want to be labeled one either… though, there was a relation, so we took the name Midnight Lamp from [the Jimi Hendrix song] ‘Burning of the Midnight Lamp’. As time would reflect, our musical message would be shaped by the purpose of what a Midnight Lamp is: [...]
They’re Walking Among Us, Imposters.
Evan Hein, Nickolai Preiss, and Miles Gretsky of The Imposters
Maybe they’re among us. Imposters. Walking among us even here in the South Bay – studying us, helping us, or plotting our demise. Perhaps your co-worker, choked by a “tie,” restricted by “underwear,” adhering to “9-5,” is actually gathering information for an intelligent planet revolving around a warm star in a distant galaxy. Or possibly some desperate bacteria hitched a ride on the back of a meteor that struck Earth, [...]
A Lesson In Penmanship – Kyle Boomer’s One Man Scene
There aren’t many jungles in Oklahoma; in fact, there are none. And at first glance, it may not seem like there are any here at the beach either. Ah, but there is one jungle in the South Bay (of Los Angeles, Ca), so removed and protected it can take a person decades to find it. And when one does find or stumble into this beautiful, eclectic place, they run the risk of not finding their way back out. I’m [...]
