ZuhG visits second home in South Bay

ZuhG plays Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach, CA tomorrow night, Jan. 25.

It’s a fascinating accomplishment when a band from elsewhere, outside Los Angeles county, is able to secure a following here in the South Bay. I’m not talking about acts like Toots and The Maytals, Dickey Betts, or Tab Benoit, who enjoy throngs of predetermined fans flocking to their tour buses. I’m talking about everyday bands, and underground bands. Bands like Fartbarf and Temporal Love. Emerging bands on the [...]

Assless Chaps & Fartbarf at Texas Loosey’s, Singer/Songwriters at Suzy’s

Fartbarf performs Texas Loosey's in Torrance, CA Jan. 6

Fartbarf

I still hear people mumble about how these guys shoot themselves in the foot with a name like Fartbarf. Bottom line: they sound good, they look good, they perform good; so, those incapable of accepting their silly name may as well make an appointment with the podiatrist.

Fartbarf call their sound more eclectic than the offspring of a Tijuana hooker, and have defined themselves as post-Neanderthal Analog Synthesizer Rock n’ [...]

5-Track & Glass Goblins/Marc Cantlin II “3 Moments Til Dawn” Split Single just added!

"3 Moments Til Dawn" Split Single by 5-Track & Glass Goblins/Marc Cantlin II

To be honest, when we were approached by Zlicious Productions about 5-Track, we were a little skeptical. I mean, we get a lot of music coming our way, a shit ton of inquiries, submissions, uploads; and well, some of it’s just crap. That’s the way it is. Not everyone makes good music.

The thing was, unfairly, we presumptuously and preemptively feared that 5-Track would be a wash, due [...]

Kirk Joseph’s Back Yard Groove (w/ Dr. John) is on DHR!

Did you know that Kirk Joseph’s innovative “Sousafunk” project, the Kirk Joseph’s Backyard Groove “Sousafunk Ave” LP is proudly presented in our mix at DHR?

For those unaware, Kirk Joseph, son of trombonist Waldren “Frog” Joseph, is a master sousaphone player (that’s the one that looks like a tuba), one of the founding members of the legendary New Orleans-born Dirty Dozen Brass Band, band leader of Kirk Joseph’s Backyard Groove and the 504 Brass Band, and a pioneer of Sousafunk. [...]

Skating Away with Seth Pettersen – An Intimate Interview and New Video

We found Tall Tales and The Silver Lining, and we loved them… Then we bumped into Franklin For Short at a show which we actually presented, and discovered that core members of Tall Tales were also in that band… And a core member of Franklin was none other than Seth Pettersen… Thus, we finally learned of Seth Pettersen and The Undertow.

Soon following, we were blessed to add the Ventura, CA-based Seth Pettersens’ debut LP “So Fully” to the mix on [...]

Fever Tree – Hey Joe: Vol. 3 of Psychotropic Sounds from Jeff’s Closet

This DHR series features luscious cuts from the depths of Jeff’s personal library. It focuses primarily on historically and regionally influential and important artists from the 60s and 70s. Undoubtedly, much of the music proffered herein has inspired countless contemporary acts, including numerous bands featured on DHR. Most of the music is reasonably obscure, while some albums are downright rare. It is all in some form psychedelic or fusion-based, all of which is mind-blowing and necessary. As an act of [...]
