“And though my whole design is broken, though my heart is startin’ to drown, there’s a fire in the fortune lands, where the time is upside down.”
Luke Philbert learned to play old-time and bluegrass music while growing up attending a Methodist Church in California, where he met and learned from older pickers hailing from the Appalachian area of south eastern United States. As Luke and his musical yearnings matured he spent a summer under the mentor, Brad Leftwhich, in Asheville, North Carolina, learning Tommy Jarrell downbowing Fiddle techniques and Clawhammer Banjo styles. He began incorporating these musical styles into songs he’d penned over the past five years, manifesting as Shiver Spine Magic: ten originals and two traditional old time tunes: the fruits of a six month recording project out of Santa Cruz, CA.
“The other night a friend looked at me as though I was losing my soul, as if I needed a Godly intervention to get me outa my hole. And with a passion for the windy land, and a path with a lonesome sound, I’m goin’ to the Andes mountains, where the time is upside down.” (cordillera calling, Luke Philbert)

His striking lyrics come directly from the belly of the human condition, exuding emotion that will send shivers up the spine. He’s able to apply his voice to the lyrics as a manipulative instrument, evoking emotive imagery and painting pleasant pictures which take the listener on a journey through the soul of man. ~Dirty Jeff

Luke, that is badass. Keep on rocking, leather gloves, pipe, stash, geeeetar and all!
Luke Philbert is a God among men. Women’s knees go weak when he walks into the room.
