DHR on KXLU w/ DJ Jen: Playlist Archives – Nov 11 (Latino Americano y Tropicalia)
This was a special broadcast and a birthday wish come true. Dirty Jeff’s b-day happens to be Veteran’s Day, 11/11, and all he wanted to do was sit at the controls and spin sets of Latin American psychedelia and Brasilian Tropicalia – distinct genres of music which he has for some reason spent numerous years investigating. DJ Jen acquiesced, and we proceeded to open and blow minds. Here’s what we played…

DHR Song of the Day 11/26/10: Sons Of An Illustrious Father – “Long Lost Highways”
Dirty Jeff’s song pick of the day today is “Long Lost Highways” by the Sons Of An Illustrious Father.
Pretty sure Dylan wishes he wrote this song. Funny thing is, this band boasts superb female lead vocals - rivaling the likes of Norah Jones; but it’s my day to pick, and the male-led vocals of “Long Lost Highways” happens to be my hook today. Dig this unreal band from New York!

Live -Allah Las- Video
We wouldn’t do what we do if we weren’t passionate about it. As such, DHR goes to a lot of shows. We thought it’d be fun to bring along a little handy cam to snag some live grooves here and there to be shared with those in our greater network who cannot make it across state, country, or globe to join us on certain nights.
Here’s a quick live video of the Allah Las. Enjoy!
Infantree @ The Mint, Friday Nov. 19
The first thought that popped into my head upon putting Infantree’s debut album “Wouldwork” into my CD player was, “Wow, I haven’t heard vocals like this since the Moody Blues!”
Now for some that could be a bad thing, what with the Moodys being pegged as sounding soft in some circles; but the vocal prowess of the Moody Blues is undeniably superb. Similarly, Infantree possesses a masterful vocal quality which will be rivaled by precious few throughout eternity. It sounds like [...]
Grand Elegance visits The Prospector
One of the best, most talented, and enigmatic bands to come out of the LA-Long Beach scene made a grand appearance at The Prospector on Thursday night, Nov 4. Amidst life’s incessant hectic dance, a Grand Elegance performance has at times become far and few between. Some get married, some have kids, others moonlight in 3 additional bands, and most still slave away in the workforce. It ain’t easy, and it ain’t always fun. But we hope we can always [...]
Kid Infinity EP Release Party!
Kid Infinity has been infinitely busy. Hot on the heels of their “Kid Infinity – The 3D Experience” and rumored plans of more 3D productions to come, they’re releasing a much anticipated EP titled “Electric Candy”.
The 3D Experience
Electric Candy EP
K.I. is throwing a release party for “Electric Candy” on Friday Oct. 22, 9:30pm, at The Sex Museum in Atwater CA – located at 2972 Glendale Blvd. (That’s just west of Glendale, not to be confused with the Atwater [...]
ZuhG. and Fartbarf @ The Shore this week in Hermosa Bch
Just a quick shout out for a couple of high energy shows going down at The Shore in Hermosa Beach this week.
ZuhG. seems to be all over the place and in the South Bay area quite a bit for a band coming all the way from Sacramento. But then again, they are far away, and not here too often – so you might want to get off your ass and dig on their groovin’ scene tomorrow night, Tue Oct. 19. [...]
A Day In The Life – Dirty Mike’s Film Making Debut
Dirty Hippie Radio friend and associate Mike Siordia, aka Dirty Mike, has embarked on a film foray. We’d like to call it a surf film expedition, and perhaps it truly is; but he applies an artistic approach which communicates an intrinsic lifestyle beyond the depth of leisurely activity or sport. Surpassing the conventional point, shoot, and rip of most modern surf films, Dirty Mike’s mini-film captures the essential experience of a soulful surfer’s relationship with the ocean – in and [...]
