Folk is the foundation of all spoken word music (music with song). It is the most malleable form of music, capable of adapting any variation – from Celtic jig to brazen punk, Andean folklorico to whiskey-drinkin’ cowboy… Even blues is a type of folk music, [...]
DHR feel good sunny Song of the Day 12/1210: Rockamovya – “Battling Within”
It’s 82 degrees here at the beach in Southern California, which evokes a feeling of summer in winter; and what better evokes the vibe of summer at the beach in So Cal than the rhythms of reggae? That’s why today’s song of the day is brought to us by Rockamovya with “Battling Within“.
This one-off super group fusion album has got to be one of the most killer records to go down in the annals of Reggaedom. Rockamovya is a collaboration [...]
Dirty Hippie Reggae
Just added Rockamovya and Groundation to the music player!
Basically, if you have ever liked a Bob Marley song, there’s something here for you. Those of you who already pack your peace pipes with reaggae know there’s something here for you. Love.
Might also want to check these ones out too…

Too Drunk To Rock N Roll
Man, Dirty Hippie Radio did not make it to The Reflectacles Saturday night – what a bummer. Sorry guys, but that’s what starting with a Dogfish Head Burton Baton Oak Aged Imperial IPA, followed by a Full Sail Session Black, a Stone Sublimely Self Righteous, 2 Russian River Blind Pigs, a pint of Port Lost Abbey Gift of The Magi, and a finale of 2 more Burton Baton double IPAs will do to you. I couldn’t find my car, let [...]
Boogaloo Autism Benefit Show
Cafe Boogaloo, Hermosa Beach, is hosting an Autism Benefit Show tomorrow, Saturday, 4:30-7:30pm. Sourgrass and Fortunate Youth will be supporting from the stage. It’s a community event about spreading Autism awareness, promoting youth organizations, alternative medicine, and healthy living; and raking in some dough for a good cause. Dirty Hippie Radio will be there to make the dance floor look good while the bands help spread awareness (with psychotropic music?). See you there, unless you’re too busy making deviled eggs [...]
My Sourgrass Curse
I was totally geared and stoked to go see Sourgrass last night at The Viper Room in Hollyweird… So of course I woke up with a gnarley sore throat: I have a Sourgrass curse. They’re like one of the sickest bands you can catch live and I always seem to get there right when the show is ending (I got one damn song last night). Fortunately, they will be performing in town again on April 3rd, at Cafe Boogaloo for [...]
South Bay Reggae Support Wailers
That’s right, our own local homegrown reggae bands will be opening for The Wailers saturday night at Brixton. Sure, you’ll be there for The Wailers, but do not miss International Farmers and Fortunate Youth.
Because of their classy, solemn nature, the Farmers can come across as a bit serious. Not so, they just get in the zone. They jam hard and will maintain the grooves to the point of tripping you out. Their “seriousness” actually suggests elements of consciousness, clarity, respect, and [...]
