DHR Song of the Day 1/11/11: Al Lay – “Change”

The number 11 is a special character, full of auspicious and mysterious omen. So for today’s 11th day of the 11th year of the new millennium that we’re still desperately trying to figure out (like every other day and year of every other millennia), we’ve chosen Al Lay’s “Change” as song of the day – because goodness and progress often requires a momentous degree of change and rearrange.

Manhattan Murder Mystery and Seasons @ Eagle Rock Music Festival Sat Oct. 2

We attended this festival last year, and perhaps like most of you cannot believe it is here again already!

It’s the 12th Annual Eagle Rock Music Festival. Loads of bands from every genre, loads of awesome people, and a great event all around. This year 2 hot bands who have been receiving a lot of attention and are gaining steam -and who are also featured on DHR- will be performing:

Manhattan Murder Mystery

Led by Matthew Teardrop’s powerhouse vocals, MMM is [...]

Fartbarf at the HeardFest

The HeardFest will take place August 14 at Junction Block/L.A. Historic State Park. The collective members of Heard of Elephants, teamed with REMAP, bring us this exciting festival to showcase art, comedy, craft, food, and some of the most exciting progressive bands the L.A. underground has to offer. Of course Fartbarf will be there. (Might want to wear B.A. tank tops and flojos with your ape masks for this one boys, it’s probably gonna be a scorcher.)

ZugH. and International Farmers, Free Show

ZuhG. and International Farmers are both playing at Patrick Molloys in Hermosa Beach tonight June 15, for free! The boys from Indo Radio will be there raffling off free smoking utensils. Not a bad Tues night scene at all, not bad at all.

We may see a new album from the International Farmers by the end of this sumer (possible cover below?). And be sure to also check out The Dirty Feet – the saxophone player from ZuhG.’s other band.

Big Funky Sunday – It’s A DHR Memorial Day Weekend

We’ve got a great Sunday to look forward to this holiday weekend – we’re gonna get shit-faced at Naja’s all day!  No, not really, even though that’d be just splendid, we’ve got funky jams and big beats to tend to.

Midnight Lamp will be jamming their brains out from 1-5pm at Cafe Boogaloo, Hermosa Beach.  We’ll be there getting our sweat on to their soulful rockin’ bluesy funk jams.

From there, we probably will hit up [...]

Kid Infinity Video Blowing Minds and Popping Balloons

This music video is as instantly classic as Nestle Quick.  Probably the strawberry kind, cuz it’s so deliciously fun.  This video makes me want a bitchin’ van, it makes me want to be in K.I.’s entourage, it makes me want to give bunny ears, it makes me want a Blow Pop, and it makes me realize smoking is still cool no matter what the commercials say.  Thanks Kid Infinity, you summertime loner you!  Check it.

Do You Like Weird? Fartbarf Tonight!

Do you like weird?  I like weird, as long as it’s really good.   Can was weird, King Crimson was weird, hell even Pink Floyd was weird.   But they were all really good, a weird that borders genius.   Fartbarf is weird, and really good – so if A + B adds up they probably = C.  Ya dig?  Fartbarf tonight May 11 at Patrick Molloy’s, Hermosa Beach. “You’ll be there, we’ll be there, love is how you [...]
