A Darling rerelease and a War Called Peace

The Darlings play Saint Rocke Friday along with a reunion of War Called Peace.

Subscribers to the high-energy rock or punk lifestyle will be delighted to learn of a local show this week that’s worthy of being called a special South Bay (Los Angeles) engagement. It’s The Darlings’ album (re)release party, with opener support from the legendary War Called Peace — who broke up in 1998.

The Darlings — Buddy Harris, aka Buddy Darling (voice, guitar), Chris Kranes (bass, backup vocal), [...]

The Muddy Reds EP “Justle Hustle” just added!

Welcoming The Muddy Reds from Venice Beach, Los Angeles – making their debut appearance to the DHR mix with the new EP “Justle Hustle.”

It’s pretty straightforward, raw rock n’ roll. Dirty, with a touch of the blues. Evoking imagery of beer bottles clanking in the studio.

Blue Jungle EP “Loveless Youth” just added!

We’re aching and gushing in sweet pain from featuring the new Blue Jungle EP – “Loveless Youth,” out now on Burger Records.

This seductive gem comes out of Compton/Los Angeles and features eerily  provocative, goth-psych covers of “Little Red Riding Hood,” “I’m Your Puppet,” “Suspicion,” and “Baby it’s You” – as well as a couple tasty originals.

Skating Away with Seth Pettersen – An Intimate Interview and New Video

We found Tall Tales and The Silver Lining, and we loved them… Then we bumped into Franklin For Short at a show which we actually presented, and discovered that core members of Tall Tales were also in that band… And a core member of Franklin was none other than Seth Pettersen… Thus, we finally learned of Seth Pettersen and The Undertow.

Soon following, we were blessed to add the Ventura, CA-based Seth Pettersens’ debut LP “So Fully” to the mix on [...]

The legendary Dave Mason comes to Brixton

Dave Mason plays Brixton Saturday night.

Imagine being at a party with Jimi Hendrix. Then imagine being at a party and hanging out with your friend Jimi Hendrix. Someone throws on a fresh copy of Bob Dylan’s new album “John Wesley Harding,” and upon hearing “All Along the Watch Tower” your friend Jimi says, “Man, I’ve got to record this!” Imagine right then and there, you and your friend Jimi split from the party to go record the most mammoth [...]

The Seasons Are Fucking Cool!

It’s not the most intelligent or clever of titles. Perhaps it’s a bit crass, admittedly childish and vulgar; but I had no choice. Catching the Seasons live for the first time left me with one overwhelming reaction… and as I panned over the crowd, I could see the same sentiments mirrored across their faces as well… The Seasons are fucking cool!

Seasons are a Highland Park-based band within the greater Los Angeles area. They are Nik Garcia, vocals, guitar; John Seasons, [...]

DHR Song of the Day 1/11/11: Al Lay – “Change”

The number 11 is a special character, full of auspicious and mysterious omen. So for today’s 11th day of the 11th year of the new millennium that we’re still desperately trying to figure out (like every other day and year of every other millennia), we’ve chosen Al Lay’s “Change” as song of the day – because goodness and progress often requires a momentous degree of change and rearrange.

DHR Song of the Day 1/2/11: Faking David – “Evolve”

A song from our Canadian brothers to the north, befitting the transition into a new year with growth and change: “Evolve” by Faking David.  An evocation of freedom, freedom of expression, freedom to expand.

DHR On 88.9FM KXLU Los Angeles – Playlist Archives: 12/2/10

Another excellent Thursday show with DJ Jen of KXLU. Spun lots of new music and some fantastic older stuff, including an Indian-influenced set with a classic cover of “Light My Fire” by Ananda Shankar (none other than Ravi Shankar’s nephew). Here’s what we played…

The Cyrkle – “please don’t ever leave me”
The Arbors – “so nice”
