In Remembrance of Derek Philbert
Derek Philbert (August 8, 1987 – February 6, 2012)
It won’t be on the cover of Rolling Stone, it won’t make major headlines, and it won’t effect an FM radio tributary. But he is on our cover, he is our major headline, and we are paying him tribute!
Derek Philbert passed away yesterday morning at the age of 24. He was found dead as the result of a tragic accident, leaving family and friends devastated. We share in the shock, anger, [...]
KXLU Playlist 2/2/12
It was great to sit in on Levitation Radio again at KXLU 88.9 FM Los Angeles. The program’s DJ graciously offers up part of her own airtime as a platform for DHR to present and share some the music we feature here on the net. It provides an additional channel to help expand our reach through the broadcast medium, and we always get bitchin’ feedback from the station’s listeners.
This time, we were particularly focused on spinning some of the newest [...]
DHR Song of the Day 3/31/11: The Myonics – “That’s the End of That”
You don’t know The Myonics??? Then we and FM radio and PR firms and distribution agencies aren’t doing a good enough job!
The Myonics are an innovative, experimental psych-pop band from the San Francisco area. And they’re a lot more than that. Cynical, dark perhaps… unpredictable, funny, smart… a little too smart perhaps… rocking, loud, lovely, and intelligent.
You kind of never know what you’re going to get from this bunch. They’re always searching and playing with sound and direction – and [...]
Welcoming, J E F F E R T I T T I ‘s N I L E !
We’d like to welcome the cheerful insanity of Jeffertitti’s Nile to DHR! I recently had a conversation with Kim Simmonds -founder and guitarist of the legendary British blues rock act Savoy Brown- and he was talking about how the DJs used to be mentors… guiding people to the music, and bringing it to them… the captains, luminaries… Well, you certainly won’t find that on commercial radio – you find it here on DHR in abundance, and on the waves you’ll [...]
VonVeederVeld Has Arrived on DHR
New band added to DHR today! VonVeederVeld, featuring their album “Morphic Resin Ants”. They’re out of Rapid City, South Dakota, but we met them at the KXLU studios in Los Angeles. Indeed, they’re performing at the Redwood Bar in downtown LA tonight! You’re likely to hear bitchin’ live expansions of such outstanding tracks as “You Don’t Exist, Anyway“. Check out their yummy psych-rock and come back for seconds.
Below is their cut Palindrome, from their new 7 inch release. It plays [...]

Dirty Hippie Radio Presents: Tune In Tuesdays at Patrick Molloys
This week, tonight in fact, at Tune In Tuesdays with Patrick Molloys (Hermosa Beach, CA), Dirty Hippie Radio Presents: The Cigarette Bums, Cobalt Cranes, Allah Las. No cover, food and dirty drink specials, starts 9pm.
Listen to The Cigarette Bums’ Music Now
With one of the best band names we’ve ever seen, these bums rock! It’s a very raw, bluesy, punk, garage rock n’ roll, expanded with a psych layer washed over with saxophone. Maybe a cross between The Stooges [...]
