DHR Guests on KXLU Halloween Special!
For the 2nd year in a row, DHR was invited to guest-DJ on KXLU 88.9 FM’s Levitation Radio for a spooky, kooky, sexy Halloween special broadcast. We got down on creepy sets, interjected with wicked movie soundbites, summoning the studio spirits while setting a sinister mood for listeners. Here’s what we brought to the table.
Arthur Brown – prelude/nightmare
“Children of the night…” (Dracula w/ Bela Lugosi)
Pizza! – husky open-toed camel
Tijuana Panthers – creature
The Purple Gang – the wizard
Sam Gopal – season [...]

Another excellent Thursday show with DJ Jen of KXLU. Spun lots of new music and some fantastic older stuff, including an Indian-influenced set with a classic cover of “Light My Fire” by Ananda Shankar (none other than Ravi Shankar’s nephew). Here’s what we played…
Lord Huron – “the problem with your daughter” (new add)
The Byrds – “bells of rhymney”
The Cyrkle – “please don’t ever leave me”
The Arbors – “so nice”
Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings – “window shopping”

DHR Graces FM Airwaves – by the Graciousness of DJ Jen at 88.9 KXLU Los Angeles
Goodness gracious, gracious DJ Jen! DHR had an absolute blast blasting the FM airwaves with tracks from some of the most stellar rock, garage, surf, punk, and psychedelic bands featured on our site (as well as some yummy treats from Dirty Jeff’s psychedelicious vaults)! Major cheers! Here’s a couple more of these !! in case we’re not emphatic enough already.
It truly was a joy to be in the KXLU studio on LMU campus. And what a fantastic opportunity to play, [...]
Ostentatious Apples
I hate waxed apples. I mean, c’mon, it’s so unnecessary. Are we so narcissistic that we need to see ourselves in the glimmering shine of our polished Whashingtons, Braeburns, and Fujis? Hell no! It’s just another case of overproduced music. Say whaaat? Yeah, I do think of overproduced music when I am forced to eat a (fake) shiny apple. I think of great music, like great fruit, that is spoiled with the over dazzled, superficial festoonery [...]

We want kids to be talking about DHR so much that parents think it must be the latest drug fad. We want our station to make the party like the rug that really ties the room together. We’ll see you at the festival if you’re there, and when we do we’ll give you a cool sticker and a high-five.
