ZuhG visits second home in South Bay
ZuhG plays Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach, CA tomorrow night, Jan. 25.
It’s a fascinating accomplishment when a band from elsewhere, outside Los Angeles county, is able to secure a following here in the South Bay. I’m not talking about acts like Toots and The Maytals, Dickey Betts, or Tab Benoit, who enjoy throngs of predetermined fans flocking to their tour buses. I’m talking about everyday bands, and underground bands. Bands like Fartbarf and Temporal Love. Emerging bands on the [...]
The Irie State of Mind, A New Album From Fortunate Youth
I’ve lived in the South Bay of Los Angeles for nearly 30 years. I’ve skateboarded, bicycled, and ding-dong-ditched more no-name streets than most residents know exist; and I don’t use PCH to get everywhere I need to go. I remember walking past Mrs. Gooch’s and the pet store to get a scoop of black cherry at Thrifty for a quarter. I remember burritos at Diana’s on the Hermosa strand, $1 rice from Thai Top, and punk rock shows at the [...]
Living The ZuhG Life
When I hear the name ZuhG, it makes me think of the planet Gong, Daevid Allen and pothead pixies. Well, it’s not a mythical planet, and the potheads aren’t pixies; but there is one commonality shared with the fanciful world created by the founding member of Soft Machine and Gong…
“ZuhG means to be unlike others, and to do something different,” says Bryan Nichols of ZuhG. “We made it up. Be ZuhG… Live a ZuhG life.”
ZuhG is a prolific band from [...]
DHR Song of the Day 2/9/11: The Mantras – “Five Roads”
Here’s one for all you dirty hippies who love to dance and swirl and bob and twirl like super novas caught in cyclones to the tribal spells cast by jam bands. Get down with “Five Roads” from North Carolina’s The Mantras, off their Dharland album.
…and try not to throw up from spinning in circles.
May also enjoy Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, Kirk Joseph’s Backyard Groove, Spam Allstars, Weigh Station, Sci Fi, Eymarel, Chronicles of the Landsquid, ZuhG., Fish Out [...]
DHR feel good sunny Song of the Day 12/1210: Rockamovya – “Battling Within”
It’s 82 degrees here at the beach in Southern California, which evokes a feeling of summer in winter; and what better evokes the vibe of summer at the beach in So Cal than the rhythms of reggae? That’s why today’s song of the day is brought to us by Rockamovya with “Battling Within“.
This one-off super group fusion album has got to be one of the most killer records to go down in the annals of Reggaedom. Rockamovya is a collaboration [...]

ZugH. and International Farmers, Free Show
ZuhG. and International Farmers are both playing at Patrick Molloys in Hermosa Beach tonight June 15, for free! The boys from Indo Radio will be there raffling off free smoking utensils. Not a bad Tues night scene at all, not bad at all.
We may see a new album from the International Farmers by the end of this sumer (possible cover below?). And be sure to also check out The Dirty Feet – the saxophone player from ZuhG.’s other band.
